Swimming/Diving is open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders, but pool space requires us to limit our team.
This is not a learn to swim program. Following is the swim selection criteria.

  1. Must be able to swim with face in the water and use good rhythmic breathing.
  2. Must be able to swim at least 2 full lengths of the pool without stopping.
  3. Must be able to listen and follow directions as instructed.

It is possible that a swimmer may meet all the criteria but still not make the team if there are many swimmers that try out.

No locker rooms will be available before or after swim practice, M.T,W,F.  Please arrive with your swim suit on and an adequate layer of warmth.

Swimmers should come to the pool with their swim suit on and be seated in the hallway by the art room NO LATER THAN 6:00 PM. Divers should be seated in the pool bleachers NO LATER THAN 4:15 PM.

Students need to be picked up no later than 15 minutes after practice is dismissed, EVERY DAY. This is a deal breaker.

Please know that the SACS grades policy will be in effect for the swim/dive season. Refer to the school website for a full explanation of the grades policy.

The following forms need to be on file (Final Forms online) before a student can try out with the team:

Each swimmer/diver that makes the team will be asked to pay a mandatory $25 athletic fee

Optional

Team T shirts are approximately $15 (ordered online)

Team suit- TYR Phoenix/Sporti Lightwave, girls, boys brief, boys jammer (see "Spirit wear and suits online stores" tab)

DIVING INFO

My name is Amy Johnson, and I am the dive coach for both Woodside and Summit.  My email is
bytheseaasj@yahoo.com and cell is 260-414-6856.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
I have been coaching dive for 12 years.
I am an elementary PE teacher in Fort Wayne Community Schools at Brentwood.

Dive practice is from 4:15 to 5:30, T-F, Mondays different time. Middle school will arrive and take 3 blue mats into the hallway.
We will stretch, take attendance, go over the workout for the day, and return the mats to get in the water for an hour.
Club divers will arrive and stretch while we are in the water.
Club divers will stay and join Club until xx.

There are xx Practice days.  Both teams practice at the same time on the same boards.

There will be NO Practice on the following dates:
TBD

If there is a Meet, Middle school will not practice and Club kids will go the club practice.
This would a good time to check out an intro to dive through IISD (Indiana International School of Diving).

Conference qualifications are a 4 step hurdle and 6 different dives.
There are only 3 divers entered for each team for conference.

We will have 3 days of tryouts starting Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
I will let the divers know they have made the team on Fri, Jan. 24 after practice.

Please arrive on time to pick up your diver after practice.
I will not leave until all athletes have been picked up and are accounted for.

I am excited for our season and am ready to get started!   We are going to have a lot of fun!

Thank you,

Amy Johnson
