Positive Behavior Interventions & Support (PBIS) provides a positive and effective alternative to the traditional methods of discipline. PBIS methods are research-based and proven to significantly reduce the occurrence of problem behaviors in the school, resulting in a more positive school climate and increased academic performance.
The goal is to create a positive social culture in which pro-social behaviors are explicitly taught and reinforced, and all adults respond to the occurrence of problem behavior in a consistent manner.
What is a matrix?
The PBIS behavior matrix (below) is a chart that clearly communicates the expectations of positive behaviors for students throughout our school.
At Summit Middle School, we promote and encourage student's good behavior through teaching, modeling, and reinforcing our S.O.A.R. expectations. We strive to promote positive behaviors with verbal and visual reinforcement using our Falcon Feathers. The feathers can be used in our PBIS store, special activities or experiences, or raffles.
