Parent Newsletters

Dear Falcon Parents,

For the first time this season, we finally had a full week of practice! For that we are thankful.  The kids did a great job at the meet on Thursday, times are dropping, and dives are improving! We are going to keep working hard, but all the coaches are really proud of the progress the swimmers and divers have made. Thank you to all of our meet volunteers.  We really appreciate you.

Congratulations to our record breakers:

Dear Falcon Parents,

Your kids did great at the first meet! Thank you to everyone who volunteered. Thank you to our parents that timed and volunteered at the dive table, our high school helpers, Drew Weiland, Ripley Merritt and Mia Herber, former SMS swimmers that helped get our new kids where they needed to be, and thanks also to our 7th and 8th graders for teaching our new kids how a swim meet works! We look on in awe at the roll that everyone played to make this meet a success. We are very proud of how our team performed and represented Summit Middle School.

Congratulations to Hayden Lynam for breaking 2 school records; 100 IM, old record :57.89 set in 1999, new record :55.12; 500 freestyle, old record 3:59.78 set in 2013, new record 3:51.59.  Congratulations to Logan Poswinski and Everett Loney for breaking the 50 fly record set last year; old record :26.12, new record :25.31.

This Wednesday, 2/16 will be a long day.  We have pictures right after school at 2:30, we have a project for the kids, and we have a swim meet.  The kids will not have time to go home. Thank you to the parents who are providing a snack and drink for the kids.  If you want to send a little extra snack and drink for your swimmer or diver, that would be great. The meet will start at 5:30 with diving.  Thank you to everyone who has signed up.  We are adding one more volunteer slot – a ribbon runner to award a ribbon to the winner of each heat.

No swim or dive practice Thursday, 2/17.

There are still a few swimmers and divers who have not turned in the $10 athletic fee.  This is mandatory.  Please turn it in asap.

Wed, 2/16 – pictures 2:30, home meet starts 5:30

Thur, 2/17 – no swim or dive practice

Dear Falcon Parents,

Hopefully we are done with all of our snow days and can get back to work! Our first meet is this Wednesday, Feb 9 against our friends at Woodside.  It is an official meet, but we purposely mix ages and abilities for this meet only so the kids can get to know each other and help each other!  We are still looking for a few Summit alums to help at this meet.  We have several kids brand new to swimming and we will need about 4 high school helpers. Please let us know if you have a high schooler that can help.

Woodside asked us to provide 8 timers for the meet on Wed, so we have updated the sign up genius.  Please sign yourself up! Great for service hours! We probably will not need anyone to livestream the meets this year.

Only one more week to order the coolest spirit wear in town! Use the sales code NUBSB. Our spirit wear is always designed by our own swimmers, and this year Everett Loney and Jackson Pyle came up with our design.  We LOVE it! You can order your swim suit through our suit store which is open year round.

Please turn in your $10 athletic fee ASAP. Checks payable to Summit Middle School

Grade check is coming up Feb 14!  Make sure those assignments are turned in!

If the kids would like to go to the dance on Monday, that is fine, but be aware that we do not have practice on Tuesday due to the regional high school dive meet at Summit and Wednesday is our meet!! Swimmers and divers should go home after school on Wednesday, eat a snack and arrive back at school 4:15.  Send your swimmers with a sharpie marker! Divers will go right to the pool, swimmers will meet in the back hallway. The meets are not optional, but if you know your swimmer or diver will not be able to attend a meet, please let us know asap.  Also if you swimmer or diver is sick on the day of a meet, please let us know asap. Meet starts at 5:30 with diving and that usually lasts about 30 minutes.  Swimming starts about 6.

Please note that middle school swim is a team sport and the kids may not get out of their suits or leave until the meet is completed, we have cheered for the other team and have cleaned up our area (divers excluded – you may change and leave after diving)

The kids do not have school on Friday, Feb 11, so we are offering optional practice at the regular times (2:30 swim, 4:15 dive), but due to the many snow days we have had, we really encourage the kids to come.

We need the kids locker numbers!  Have them check after school and write it down on our attendance sheets.

We will have an awards night at the end of our season and the kids just LOVE seeing pictures of themselves. Please sign up to take pictures during the season and put them in a google photos drive.

Monday, 2/7 – regular dive practice 4:15-5:30, regular swim practice 5:45-7

Wednesday, 2/9 – Meet against Woodside. Be at pool or hallway 4:15. Meet starts at 5:30

Thursday, 2/10 – regular dive and swim practice
