Parent Newsletters

Dear Falcon Parents

After much consideration and strategizing we have chosen our conference team. This is our biggest and toughest meet of the season! We considered several factors and chose a competitive team to represent Summit Middle School. Congratulations to all those who made the conference team, and congratulations to everyone else for a successful season.  We are proud of you all!  We have seen so much improvement!

Our conference swimmers and divers are:

Girls: Lilia Chadwick, Lauryn Davis, Addison Hawkins, Lily Hollandsworth, Emma Newberry, Anna Poswinski, Kalynne Pressler, Makenzie Verbryck, Kylie Kottkamp, Audrina Patterson, Matilda Sieffert McCoy, Claire Standiford, Ruby McCain, Hanna Medina, Cadence Shannon

Boys: Alex Birkle, Daniel Jones, Owen Martin, Nathan Sackett, Ethan Stephenson, Graham Witte, Levi Cordes, Jackson Crouch, Wyatt Metzger, Aiden Pyle, Jacob Rademaker, Dominic Bloom, Wesley Brooks, Weston Cogdell, Thomas Krizmanich, Reece Merritt, Charlie Rogers

Divers: Vivian Blundall, Scarlett Batty, Addy Verbryck

The lineup is will follow soon, and the only changes allowed will be to substitute an alternate if an alternate is specified. This is the only meet where we do not take requests. We have positioned all of our talent to represent Summit as best we can. If an “A” is next to the time, the swimmer is an alternate for that event.  Alternates will still warm up with the team. We have enough depth and enough talent, that we are taking a few kids that are alternates only.

We will need to supply 4 timers for each meet.  Please sign up below.

Dear Falcon Parents,

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to time or work the dive table at the Carroll meet.  It’s a treat to see older brothers or sisters who have swam for Summit, back behind the blocks as timers! We need so many volunteers, and we appreciate you all. It’s easy, and your kids love to see you volunteering. Our last regular season meet is Tuesday, March 7, at Bluffton. This is a 6 lane pool, so we are taking a smaller team made up of our 8th graders, our 6th graders, and ALL DIVERS (6th, 7th, 8th).

Coach Amy reminds us to have fun, do our best, make school a priority, and turn our work in! The divers are crushing their goals and hard work is paying off!

Thank you to Lily Hollandsworth and Lilia Chadwick for the most awesome spirit wear design.  Summit spirit wear is the best because it is always designed by our own kids! 7th graders should start thinking about next years design!

We will be choosing our conference swim team after the Bluffton meet and will announce the team on Wednesday.  We will be choosing a small, but fast team. If a swimmer does not make the conference team, their last practice will be Wednesday, March 8.

Good luck to all of our club kids swimming at divisionals this weekend.

There is no swim or dive practice on Monday, March 6 because Woodside has a home meet.

We will need to provide timers for the conference meet which will take place at Summit again this year.  We will put out a sign up after the Bluffton meet. Swimmers not in the conference meet can also time.

We are missing another pair of black tights after the Carroll meet.  If they got placed in a swim bag by accident, please return them to one of the coaches.

Dear Falcon Parents,

Your kids did great at the first meet! Divers did a great job at their first meet, and thanks to everyone for the concern for Coach Amy and her broken ankle.  She will still coach from the sideline. Dive schedule will be flexible as we are working on a meet for Woodside.  Thank you to everyone who volunteered. Thank you to our parents that timed and volunteered at the dive table, our high school helpers, Drew Weiland, and Maggie Steward, former SMS swimmers that helped get our new kids where they needed to be, and thanks also to our 7th and 8th graders for teaching our new kids how a swim meet works! We look on in awe at the roll that everyone played to make this meet a success. We are very proud of how our team performed and represented Summit Middle School.

This Wednesday, 2/15 will be a long day.  We have pictures right after school at 2:30 and we have a swim meet. It is at Norwell and it is in a 6 lane pool.  We cannot take our whole team because we are limited to the number of events we can enter, so we are taking 8th and 7th graders, and all divers (6,7,8).  Bus leave at 4:15. The kids will not have time to go home. Thank you to the parents who are providing a snack and drink for the kids.  There are still volunteer slot available if you would like to provide a snack for the kids. If you want to send a little extra snack and drink for your swimmer or diver, that would be great. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4aaaa629a13-snack1#/

The meet will start at 5:30 with diving.  Historically this pool and natatorium has been a little cold, so please send a parka or extra clothes for your kids to wear.

Kids who are not attending this meet must be picked up by 4:00. Everyone will be attending the away meet at Carroll and all kids who did not attend the Norwell meet will be attending the @ Bluffton meet.

Remember that we must have a hand written note in order to excuse your kids from the bus ride back to school.  You may only transport your immediate family.

We know that the SMS dance is Monday, 2/13, 6-7. The kids are excused from swim practice if they would like to go to the dance.  If they will not be attending the dance, we would appreciate their attendance at practice.

No dive/swim practice Thursday, 2/16.

There are still a few swimmers and divers who have not turned in the $10 athletic fee.  This is mandatory and was due at the parent meeting.  Please turn it in asap.

Also, just a note that you there is such a thing as prescription goggles. You can order those at swimoutlet.com if needed.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Tue, 2/14 – dive/swim practice

Peace be with you,

Dear Falcon Parents,

Our first meet is this Wednesday, Feb 8 against our friends at Woodside.  It is an official meet, but we purposely mix ages and abilities for this meet only so the kids can get to know each other and help each other!  We are still looking for a few Summit alums to help at this meet.  We have several kids brand new to swimming and we will need about 4 high school helpers. Please let us know if you have a high schooler that can help.

Since we do not have supervision until 4:15 on Wed,  swimmers and divers should go home after school on Wednesday, eat a snack and arrive back at school 4:15.  Send your swimmers with a sharpie marker! Divers will go right to the pool, swimmers will meet in the back hallway. If you have already informed us of a conflict for the meet on Wednesday, please remind us again.  We are making the lineup this weekend.  Also if you swimmer or diver is sick on the day of a meet, please let us know asap. There is much time and preparation that goes into setting up a meet lineup and the sooner we know, the better. Meet starts at 5:30 with diving and that usually lasts about 30 minutes.  Swimming starts about 6.

We are the home team for this meet this year!  Please sign up to volunteer!  Great for service hours.

The kids have been collecting their locker numbers in hopes that someone would volunteer to make a sign for them.  Doesn’t have to be fancy. Just something to make them feel special.

Also, we will have an awards night at the end of our season and the kids just LOVE seeing pictures of themselves. Please sign up to take pictures during the season and put them in a google photos drive.

Only one more week to order the coolest spirit wear in town! Use the sales code WT9YA. Our spirit wear is always designed by our own swimmers, and this year Lily Hollandsworth and Lilia Chadwick came up with our design.  We LOVE it! You can order your swim suit through our suit store which is open year round.

https://summit.sacs.k12.in.us/athletics/sports/swim_and_dive/spirit_wear_and_suits_online_stores

Please turn in your $10 athletic fee ASAP. Checks payable to Summit Middle School

Grade check is coming up soon.  Make sure those assignments are turned in!

Please note that middle school swim is a team sport and the kids may not get out of their suits or leave until the meet is completed, we have cheered for the other team and have cleaned up our area (divers excluded – you may change and leave after diving). The locker rooms are available before and after the meet.

The kids do not have school on Friday, Feb 10, so we are offering optional swim practice at the regular time (2:30), diver do not have practice, but have 20 minutes home exercises.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Monday, 2/6 – regular dive practice 4:15-5:30, regular swim practice 5:45-7

Tuesday, 2/8 – regular dive and swim practices

Wednesday, 2/9 – Meet against Woodside. Be at pool or hallway 4:15. Meet starts at 5:30

Dear Falcon Parents,

We spent most of our first week of practice working on strokes and conditioning. Divers are working hard to learn new dives.  There is a lot to learn and we are moving very fast.  The kids have done great!

Thank you for picking your kids up within 15 minutes of the end of practice.  This is especially important on Fridays as coaches have other places to be after practice, but must stay until last swimmer/diver is picked up. If you can’t pick them up on time, they can walk to the Y. Just let us know they will be walking to the Y.

Thank you to everyone who attended the parent meeting.

The $10 transportation fee is required for all athletes and is due by Monday.

Don’t forget to order your suits. We will let you know when our spirit wear store opens.

We still need a lot of volunteers.  Who needs service hours?? Sign them up!! We can’t do this without you!
