Just a reminder that we have purposely mixed ages and abilities for this meet so the kids can get to know each other and help each other!  If we have accidentally left someone off the report, please let me know ASAP! Kids need to be at pool for a team meeting at 4:15. Send them with a sharpie marker! Meet starts at 5:30 with diving and that usually lasts about 30 minutes.  Swimming starts about 6.  I have heard that Woodside is live streaming the meet, but have not received directions how we can access that. Tomorrow I will send out a Meet Report.  Print that out for your 1 spectator/athlete (volunteers not included) and bring it to the meet. All volunteers and spectators must wear a mask. Entries may change if someone is sick and has to pull out of the meet, but otherwise it should be pretty accurate. LET'S GO FALCONS!!

Spirit wear store open until Wed, Feb 3, 10:00 am.
Optional swim and dive practice at regular time, Monday, Feb 1.

Swimming/Diving is open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders, but pool space requires us to limit our team. This is not a learn to swim program. Following is the swim selection criteria.

  1. Must be able to swim with face in the water and use good rhythmic breathing.
  2. Must be able to swim at least 2 full lengths of the pool without stopping.
  3. Must be able to listen, follow directions, and practice social distancing as instructed.

It is possible that a swimmer may meet all the criteria but still not make the team if there are many swimmers that try out.

No locker rooms will be available before or after swim practice.  Please arrive with your swim suit on and an adequate layer of warmth.

Swimmers should come to the pool with their swim suit on and be seated in the hallway by the art room NO LATER THAN 5:45 PM. Divers should be seated in the pool bleachers NO LATER THAN 4:15 PM.

Swimmers and divers will need a baggie with their name on it.  They will wear their masks and leave them in the baggie at the side of the pool.  They will put them on when they exit the pool.

Students need to be picked up no later than 15 minutes after practice is dismissed, especially on Fridays.

Please know that the SACS grades policy will be in effect for the swim/dive season. Refer to the school website for a full explanation of the grades policy.

The following forms need to be on file before a student can try out with the team:

  1. Medical Authorization and Contact Info Card (yellow card)
  2. ISHAA Physical form (one per school year, completed before the first day of tryouts)
  3. Concussion and Cardiac arrest form (one per school year, completed before the first day of tryouts)
  4. Random Drug Testing form (one per school year)

Please turn these forms into the office before the first day of try-outs.

Each swimmer/diver that makes the team will be asked to pay a mandatory $10 athletic fee

My name is Amy Johnson, and I am the dive coach for both Woodside and Summit.
My email is bytheseaasj@yahoo.com and cell is 260-414-6856.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I have been coaching dive for 6 years.  I am an elementary PE teacher in Fort Wayne Community Schools at Brentwood.

Dive practice is from 4:15 to 5:30.  This time will overlap with High School and Club Dive.  Middle school will arrive and take 3 blue mats into the hallway.  We will stretch, take attendance, go over the workout for the day, and return the mats at 4:30 to get in the water for an hour.  Club divers will arrive and stretch while we are in the water. Club divers will stay and join Club until 6:30.

There are xx Practice days.  Both teams practice at the same time on the same boards.

There will be NO Practice on the following dates:      January xx & February xx

If there is a Meet, Middle school will not practice and Club kids will go the club practice.  This would a good time to check out an intro to dive through IISD (Indiana International School of Diving).

Conference qualifications are a 4 step hurdle and 6 different dives.  There are only 3 divers entered for each team for conference.

We will have 3 days of tryouts starting Tuesday, January 19, 2021.   I will let the divers know they have made the team on Thursday, Jan. 21 after practice.

Please arrive on time to pick up your diver after practice.  I will not leave until all athletes have been picked up and are accounted for.

I am excited for our season and am ready to get started!   We are going to have a lot of fun!

Thank you,

Amy Johnson
