Picture day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28th. Forms will be available at the Parent Meeting on the 16th. If you plan on purchasing pictures, please send the form and full payment back with your student on August 28. Do not turn it in to the coaches or the office; everything goes directly to the photographers. Thanks!

Coaching/Training Philosophy: Built on trust, commitment, and caring (sportsmanship). Trust us as coaches just as we trust you to be parents. We have high expectations for multiple reasons: to prepare the kids for the demands of the sport, and to have them show their commitment to improving.

Practice Expectations: 6 days per week with 1 day to rest. If a meet is not scheduled for Saturdays, athletes are expected to either run 2-3 miles or participate 30+ minutes in an active sport of their choice. Practices Monday through Friday are mandatory. No club sports can interfere with practices and meets (Summit academic events are the only exception!). Misses = loss of varsity status, sit out Meets, and possible dismissal from the team!

Daily Running Gear: Running watch, water bottle, and good running shoes.  Shoes must be replaced every 300-400 miles, so new shoes must be purchased every season for injury prevention.  Three Rivers Running Company and Fleet Feet offer a 10% discount for student-athletes year-round! 

Pick Up Times: Practice runs from 4-5:30pm through August 30th. Practice will run 4-6:00pm starting September 3rd. Drop off and pick up will be at Summit Door #11. Please be PROMPT!

Meet Expectations: All student athletes are expected to wear their school uniforms, a team tee-shirt, and warm-ups (if necessary) to meets.  Outer layer of clothing must be Summit gear (tee, hoodie, etc.). Runners should wear training flats to meets and varsity runners (top 10) should also bring racing spikes.  Aside from Home meets at Van Hoozen Park, all runners are expected to ride the bus to and from meets.  If a student needs to leave, they must remain for cool down and awards before departing.  Students may be released to parents only by using the sign-out sheet.

Uniforms: School issued uniforms are the only acceptable attire to be worn during competition.  Uniforms must be returned at the end of the season.  If lost, athletes will be expected to reimburse the athletic department for the replacement cost.

Injury and Injury Prevention: Proper footwear, good nutrition (no soda, energy drinks, junk food, etc.), multivitamin and calcium, hydration (60oz or more of water per day), rest (lights out at 10pm the night before meets!), and letting adults know about issues. Please consult with OPS trainers at HHS/orthopedic specialist about any persistent issues.

Representatives of SMS: These teams represent our school and our community in all things we say and do. Good sportsmanship is expected.  Athletes must use caution when communicating with others through social media—what they do and say online is also a reflection of themselves and the program.

Academics: Athletes must remain eligible academically to be able to compete in meets and invitationals.  Any student with an F at grade checks will be ineligible to compete for a minimum of one meet. Once all grades are above F and the one-meet suspension has been fulfilled, students are again eligible to compete.

Meet Protocol: On away meet days, all students stay in collab until they are dismissed to dress in the locker rooms and then travel to the meet on school busses together. For each meet, please bring healthy, easily-digestible foods (and a garbage bag!)—parent volunteer snacks will not be distributed until the end of each meet and meets are long (Saturday meets can last until 2-3pm!).

All girls and boys who achieve the following individual/team standards will be eligible for the state cross country meet. Additional eligibility factors will include: attendance, academic eligibility, and coach discretion.

We firmly believe that ALL students who stay healthy and work hard are capable of achieving these times!
