Coaching/Training Philosophy: Built on trust, caring/sportsmanship, and commitment. You must trust us as coaches just as we trust you as parents.  We have high expectations for multiple reasons: to prepare the kids for the demands of the sport, and to have them show their commitment to improving.

Practice Expectations: 6 days per week with one day for rest. If a meet is not scheduled for a Saturday, athletes are expected to either run 2-3 miles or participate for 30+ minutes in an active sport of their choice. Practices Monday through Friday are mandatory. ***No club sports can interfere with practices and meets. These misses = loss of varsity status.***

Daily Running Gear: Running watch, water bottle, and good running shoes. Shoes must be replaced every 300-400 miles, so new shoes must be purchased every season for injury prevention. Shoes/Spikes:  You can get properly fitted at either of these stores and they offer discounts-10% off at Three Rivers Running Company, 20% off at Fleet Feet   (mention student athlete discount at checkout)

Pick Up Times: Practice is 4-5:30pm Aug. 5th - 30th. Starting Tuesday Sept. 3rd practice will run 4-6pm.

Meet Expectations: All student-athletes are expected to wear their school uniforms to meets.  Bring layers, we have all types of weather to deal with. Tees, sweatshirts etc. should be Summit spirt wear or at least school colors-Green, grey, white or black.  Runners should wear training flats to meets and varsity runners (top 7-10) should bring racing spikes. Aside from Home meets at Van Hoozen Park, all runners are expected to ride the bus to and from meets. If a student needs to leave, they must remain for cooldown and awards before departing. Students will be released to parents only at away meets.

Uniforms: School issued uniforms are the only acceptable attire to be worn during competition. Any visible items worn under uniform i.e.- sports bras, compression shorts, tights or base layer shirts, or headbands must be solid black with no visible logos.  Uniforms must be returned at the end of the season, washed in cool water and hung to dry. If uniforms are lost, athletes will be expected to reimburse the athletic department for the replacement cost.

Injury and Injury Prevention: Proper footwear, good nutrition (no soda, energy drinks, junk food, etc), multivitamin and calcium, hydration (60oz+ of water per day), rest (Lights out before 10pm the night before a meet!), and letting adults know about issues. Please consult with an orthopedic specialist for persistent running-related issues.

Sportsmanship: These teams represent our school and community in all things they say and do. Good sportsmanship is expected. Athletes should use caution when communicating via social media—what people post online is a reflection of themselves AND the program/school!

Academics: Athletes must remain academically eligible to compete in meets.. Any student with an F at grade checks will be ineligible to compete for a minimum of one meet. Once all grades are above F and the one-meet suspension has been fulfilled, students are again eligible to compete.

Meet Protocol: On away meet days, all students stay in collab until they are dismissed to dress in the locker rooms and then travel to the meet on school busses together. For each meet, please bring healthy, easily-digestible foods (and a garbage bag!)—parent volunteer snacks will not be distributed until the end of each meet and meets are long (Saturday meets can last until 2-3pm!).
